Official warnings – South Australia

Stay at least 8 metres away from fallen wires and anything touching them. Call 000, then your network.
Run generators 20+ feet from doors and windows – never in a garage. Carbon monoxide is invisible and deadly.
Keep battery-powered carbon monoxide alarms on every floor. If one sounds, get outside and call 000.
Keep fridge and freezer closed: food stays cold about 4 hours in the fridge and up to 48 hours in a full freezer.
Unplug appliances to avoid damage from surges when power returns. Leave one light on so you know.
Visit an air-conditioned library or shopping centre in the heat, and ask your local council about cooling or warming centres. Never heat your home with an oven, grill or camp stove.
If you rely on powered medical equipment, register with your network as a medical-needs customer and have a backup plan.
Treat an intersection with dark signals as an all-way stop.
Share what is happening: when the power went out, what your network said, the estimated restoration time. Add your mobile number below to get updates – it stays private and is never shown on the site.
